Gleason offers Total Gear Solutions to its global customer base. We are a leader in the development and manufacture of production systems for all types of gears including design software for gears and power transmission systems, gear production machinery, metrology systems, automation solutions, related equipment, and plastic gears. The competence center for automation that provides material handling, machine tending, and automated assembly solutions is locatedin Rochester, NY. We are looking for an automation controlsengineer to join the team.
Position Summary:
The person in this role will develop, test, and optimize PLC, HMI, and robot programs for the systems manufactured at Gleason Automation Systems in Rochester, NY. The automation controls engineer is a key member of the project team from order to final acceptance and supports sales and field service to ensure that we meet customer expectations.
Job Responsibilities:
• Develop PLC, HMI and robot programs for new system requirements using multiple brands of controls hardware and various software languages (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Fanuc, Kuka, ABB, Denso)
• Collaborate with our hardware controls engineers on component selection and design
• Collaborate with our mechanical engineers on solution design using robot simulation tools
• Test electromechanical devices of the assembled system
• Verify software functions and validate overall system operation
• Support field service personnel
• Manage tasks and project deliverables in accordance with project schedule
• Drive continuous improvement in software development and testing to exceed customer specifications
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
• Proficiency with PLC, HMI and robot programming for industrial automation equipment.
• Experience with information systems as applied to industrial automation equipment.
• Experience with automation components e.g., sensors, pneumatics, vision systems
• Proficiency with networking communications e.g., EtherNet/IP, ProfiNet
• Ability to collaborate with other engineers and disciplines to communicate technical information and effectively contribute to meetings, discussions and brainstorming sessions
• Strong electromechanical aptitude
• Must be able to work productively within a team environment
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Must have strong written and oral communication skills
• Proven ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks.
Preferred Education/Training/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree (BS) in computer science or electrical engineering with emphasis on controls programming and industrial automation or equivalent work experience.
Computer Skills:
• Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Travel Requirements:
• 10%
