Job Description

The Quality Engineer for Yerkes Tedlar® is responsible for maintaining and improving our vision systems that inspect Tedlar® Film. This includes a continuous web inspection (CWI) and optical crease detection (OCD). The Quality Engineer will drive improvements in disposition of product to ensure that timely feedback is given to the operations team on the status of current production. The Quality Engineer will also look to improve the capabilities of the vision systems to detect defects that customers find objectionable. Additionally, the Quality Engineer for Yerkes Tedlar® is responsible for supporting the quality management system, customer satisfaction, quality certifications, quality related aspects of supplier and contract manufacturer relationship, training, quality audits, corrective and preventive action, development of a quality culture and drive continuous quality improvement within the manufacturing organization which also includes the laboratories. This includes tactical execution of quality initiatives and managing activities at the Yerkes Tedlar® plant in Buffalo, NY. The role will provide guidance for all supporting functions on the quality assurance process including the QMS in SAP, customer complaint investigations and continuous improvement initiatives. The role manages the quality systems (primarily the vision systems), and requirements to assure compliance. Evaluates data using statistical methodology and monitors compliance with customer specifications. Uses significant process experience and quality knowledge and training to make appropriate business-based decisions. This role will report to the Yerkes Tedlar Engineering Science Leader.

The responsibilities of this role are:
• Acts as “program manager” for vision systems used for inspection of Tedlar® film. This includes a continuous web inspection (CWI) and optical crease detection (OCD).
• Drives improvement to vision systems to ensure real time feedback on production quality to operations team.
• Supports ISO 9001/AS-9100 Quality system registration at Yerkes Tedlar®
• Own and lead the internal quality system, specifically vision systems, corrective and preventive actions, and quality incidents.
• Ensure compliance to quality system requirements and develop upgrades as the business grows and changes
• Improve and develop information systems and work systems to support and improve the quality system
• Provide guidance, direction, and collaboration with the Yerkes Tedlar® quality & production teams
• Develop product expertise, specifically in support of Tedlar® aircraft and industrial films
• Interface with Tedlar® customers on quality issues and improvements
• Assists Operations and Laboratories with Gage R&R’s to ensure inspection and testing measurement systems reliability. May be involved in the development of test methods and calibration protocols
• Leads and assists cross-functional teams to solve customer complaints and ensure problem resolution processes, including implementation of corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
• Accountable to develop and maintain business quality reporting, document management, and certification requirements.
• Ensure corrective actions are managed in accordance with business requirements.
• Lead and conduct 1st party audits at the plant to support the obtained certifications.
• Maintain the system to monitor customer specific requirements.
• Conduct training of internal resources requiring knowledge of quality systems, including auditing, core tools, and customer specific requirements.
• Develop and document quality procedures and manage review and approval processes.
• Collaborate with quality resources across the Tedlar® business to develop best practices and share learnings.
• Participate in monthly quality network conference calls and individual site conference calls to review performance.
• Lead problem solving activities for significant quality incidents at manufacturing sites.
• Work closely with supply chain and sales to ensure COAs are issued properly and meet customer expectations.
• Work with inventory management team to ensure customer returns are properly received and accounted for.

Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field or business. Green Belt or higher certification preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Quality or relevant function
• Ability to travel both domestically internationally is needed. Up to 10%.
• Minimum of 5 years of General business experience in supply chain/logistics/manufacturing required

Key Competencies
• Broad understanding of vision inspection systems.
• Broad understanding of ISO/AS9100 quality systems, product requirements, specifications, manufacturing processes, supply chain, customer service and customers
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Access DB and Word), SharePoint, Salesforce.com, SAP, LIMS, ETQ
• Ability to perform root cause analysis.
• Demonstrated strong customer focus.
• Ability to enter, extract and manage data into meaningful trends, metrics and reports
• Ability to learn and apply new concepts and software applications
• Competent trainer and facilitator
• Certified auditing skills to key standards for the business. If certification does not exist today, a development plan for achieving will be developed.
• Ability to hold self and others accountable to meet commitments, drive execution and completion

The Pay range for this role is $61,600.00 – $96,800.00 Annual
