MECHANICAL ENGINEER
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Mechanical Engineer will work with the program team to develop mechanical and electromechanical components and systems that meet customer and company requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Leads mechanical engineering design efforts through concepting, design, BOM, assembly, and detail drawings
• Performs on-site analysis for data gathering prior to design
• Develops design documentation aligned and traceable with project contractual requirements
• Participate in various aspects of project planning, including conceptual designs, schematic design, design development, construction, and revisions providing detailed technical decisions regarding scope, intent, and extent of the work to be accomplished.
• Specify system component requirements or direct modification of existing products to ensure conformance with engineering design intent and performance specifications.
• Design and evaluate mechanical/electromechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet program requirements by applying knowledge of engineering principles, including detailed analysis as appropriate.
• Interface with customer engineering and end-user contacts during project design and implementation cycle
• Recommend design modifications to improve performance, reduce schedule, and/or reduce costs.
• Designs complex electromechanical assemblies using SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD
• Designs automated material handling equipment layouts using AutoCAD
• Develops FAT and Field Installation documentation as required
• Travels to customer site to support field efforts (10-15% travel required)
EDUCATION AND TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field, required
• 1 -5 years of design of automated material handling systems and robotic handling systems, required
• Strong understanding of mechanical design practices for automated systems, conveyor systems, robotic systems, pneumatic systems, and end-of-arm tooling, required
• Prior experience in the design of automated systems using Fanuc robots, preferred
• Prior experience in the industrial automation and/or material handling sector, preferred
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Strong proficiency in mechanical/design engineering for customized automation and tooling in SOLIDWORKS
• Strong proficiency in general mechanical design and layout and assembly using AutoCAD
• Stress and Fatigue Analysis, Finite Element Analysis
• Fluid Power Design is a plus
• ABB, KUKA, and Yaskawa Robot system design
• Robot programming experience is a plus
