• *Responsibilities**
• *POSITION SUMMARY** **:**

Under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology (Pathology), and with considerable latitude for independent judgment and initiative, oversees the technical IT operations and initiatives in support of Pathology’s clinical, education, and research missions. Working collaboratively with Pathology faculty, management, and staff, and with other enterprise Information Technology groups, particularly URMC’s Information Systems Division (ISD), and with strategic partners and vendors, ensures the reliability, availability, and security of the systems and associated support structures under Pathology’s control and direction. Oversees, directs, and develops CLSS technical staff. Fosters and promotes all URMC and division efforts to improve service quality and delivery. Functions as CLSS’s chief technology officer and accordingly, is responsible and provides consultation for the aggregation, distribution, use and understanding of the technical information and skills needed to support the division and represent Pathology within the enterprise.
• *SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:**

Reports to the Director of Information Technology (Pathology), and receives guidance from ISD senior management and division Senior Administrative Directors and Faculty.
• *SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXCERCISED:**

Provides direct leadership, supervision and direction to all CLSS technical support staff.
• *BUSINESS/TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT USED:**

Uses a variety of basic and advanced business/technical programs/applications to perform responsibilities involving systems administration, monitoring and data management and analysis. Includes IT assets supporting major URMC mission-critical systems and their supporting servers and peripherals, personal user hardware, systems and software, and a wide variety of clinical, business, education, and research software and systems. .
• *SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:**

1. Directs and manages all technical systems support operations of the division. (35%)

2. Sets technical performance expectations for all technical operations including:

1. Support of the division’s major vendor-based IT systems

2. Development and support of internal applications

3. Monitoring and maintenance of databases; vendor-based and those databases supporting internally developed applications including data warehouses and messaging engines.

4. Customer support activities such as telephone, web, email, and other support inquiries

5. Infrastructure support to include hosted and remote servers, instrument connectivity, system access devices, peripheral device hardware and WAN and VLAN network connectivity support.

6. Oversees, directs, and develops the group of CLSS staff with primary responsibility for technical systems support by setting and measuring staff performance expectations.

1. Functions as the project manager for technical systems implementations. (20%)

2. Responsible for the CLSS technical component of broader Pathology, ISD, or University projects.

3. Assigns and oversees all technical staff working on assigned projects.

4. Responsible for periodic review and monitoring of technical projects and ensures that all stakeholders receive timely and accurate status updates.

5. Ensures the proper maintenance, availability, and reliability of Pathology’s information systems. (20%)

6. Collaborates with system hosts, ISD, University, Pathology, or third party technical management to ensure proper system design and function.

7. Responsible for the distribution and installation of software resident on Pathology systems.

8. Responsible for coordination of hardware and OS maintenance with all stakeholders.

9. Responsible for business continuity preparations and testing.

10. Continually assesses processes and procedures and makes suggestions to CLSS and Pathology leadership on ways to improve quality, reduce costs, and gain efficiencies. (15%)

11. Provides technical consulting services within and outside the department and serves on URMC teams as an active participant. (10%)

12. Performs other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
• *FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:**

1. Models leadership skills of professionalism, positive attitude, team building, effective and thoughtful judgment, and respect.

2. Demonstrates effective and professional written and oral communication skills.

3. Demonstrates knowledge of the health care industry in general and the current state of health care technology.

4. Understands the functions and roles of the Department’s clinical, research, and education missions.

5. Understands and has in depth experience with information systems theory, design, function, and use..

6. Participates with CLSS management team as an escalation contact for on-call staff.
• *GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:**

• *QUALIFICATIONS** **:**

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering; and 4-5years related experience, preferably 2-3 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Leadership experience in health care information technology and information system design, including databases, is a plus.
