Job Purpose
This position works with the Process Safety Director to support the development, implementation, and oversight of the company’s Process Safety Management System in the US. Role also includes participation in monitoring of program effectiveness, and governance model to ensure compliance with internal requirements. To support the growing process safety initiatives within gas network strategy.
The Senior Process Safety Engineer will work within the corporate group and interface with employees in Gas, Network Strategy, Generation, LNG, CNG, LNG Trucking and other businesses within the organization.
Key Accountabilities
• Work with US businesses to implement the Company’s global Process Safety Management System and be knowledgeable of other industry standards around safe and reliable asset management including OSHA 29CR1910.119 PSM’s fourteen (14) elements.
• Develop centralized programs under guidance of Process Safety Director to facilitate compliance with the process safety requirements and work with business areas on implementing these programs.
• Ability to evaluate risk of hazardous scenarios and develop mitigating factors using National Grid’s systematic process safety approach.
• Work with businesses on process safety incident reviews and provide guidance to them.
• Share lessons learned and best practices across the businesses.
• Process Safety incident and root cause trending.
• Maintain risk assessment inventory and risk portfolio.
• Periodic assessments of business risk reduction activities to ensure progress.
• Develop and coordinate targeted training for different process safety programs.
• Maintain Process Safety website and SharePoint site.
• Maintain outreach with engineering areas to ensure lessons learned factored into new designs.
• Assist in developing and monitoring continuous improvement efforts regarding process safety.
Capability Requirements
• Robust understanding of risks, tools and management systems across engineering, operational and asset life cycle perspectives.
• Proficient change management skills as role will require working with businesses to implement new processes and refine existing ones.
• Demonstrates the ability to network internally and externally to develop productive partnerships with the business and collaborate with them to help achieve Company objectives.
• Strong verbal and writing skills to ensure effective communication.
• Strong engineering, project management and analytical skills.
• Ability to tailor process safety solutions to Company resources and requirements.
Qualifications
• Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in Chemical Engineering discipline.
• Knowledgeable in instrumentation and controls, engineering design, equipment operation or maintenance
• Experience in prior process safety jobs or applications (approx 2- 5 years)
• Understanding and experience with LNG, CNG, Natural gas, Hydrogen blending, electric utility operations, power generation, and as well as with industry standards and regulations.
• Experience performing process safety or other types of asset related risk
• Experience performing compliance assessments or audits on process safety applications a plus

Salary: $95,000 – $110,000
