POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Process and Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining production processes and will define process parameters that allow the 24-hour manufacturing operation to meet established quality standards, productivity, safety and cost objectives.

The incumbent serves as a key leader in improving the efficiency of our manufacturing processes and developing new methods as needed. This position focuses on meeting internal and external customer expectations, helps to prevent foreseeable problems, and strives for continuous improvement that goes beyond anticipated results for themselves, customers, and fellow employees.

This position will focus on improvement objectives, including but not limited to such areas as process control, quality, safety and productivity improvement. S/he manages assigned projects, engineering trials and including project scheduling, performance, implementation, and writing reports to meet objectives and deadlines.

This position will be directly responsible for the site capital projects coordination and execution. The projects include mechanical equipment, automation and controls, safety, and will range from enhancing existing products/processes or developing new. The incumbent will be active and responsible in all phases of the project, from initial conception to final project completion.

This position directs the Inspection/Quality Assurance function to insure product reliability, conformance to engineering specifications, and customer/federal specifications in the most effective and economical manner. This includes the direct management of lab technician(s) in the analysis and reporting of material analysis. This position is responsible for the implementation of quality programs consonant with existing and developmental products and processes. These programs shall insure the prompt and cost effective inspection of manufacturing processes and products; development of systems to track and report losses; control and maintenance of quality records, and establishment of quality targets.

This position may provide technical service support to customers and/or the sales organization to solve customer needs and product or processes problems. Must have a solid, practical and theoretical knowledge of manufacturing processes. This position is a technical position to be held by an individual who has been exposed to theoretical concepts through practical experience and formal academic training.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or ceramic engineering required
• 3 – 5 years of experience utilizing and understanding engineering principles, theories and their applications. Relevant experience evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery.
• 3 – 5 years of analytical experience with manufacturing processes where qualitative testing is required to collect, analyze, and act on data to impact production.
• 3 – 5 years of experience within an industrial engineering team. Past experience in manufacturing plants with similar equipment. Chemical, ceramic, or food plant type would be a plus.
• Strong process optimization and problem solving skills
• Requires a high level of interpersonal skills and ability to build cooperative working relationships, including written and oral communication
• Strong Computer skills –proficient with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook
• Automation knowledge with PLC programming experience. Exposure and general knowledge of SCADA systems (such as Ignition) and Manufacturing 4.0.
• Good understanding of safety and environmental regulations
• The incumbent must possess strong organizational and project management skills, as well as be thorough detail-oriented and be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously with a result oriented focus. Past experience with CAPEX management. Familiar with Management of Change process.
• Ability to indirectly influence and motivate others and develop effective relationships. The position is highly visible to all employees and the incumbent must demonstrate leadership through integrity, knowledge, and personal example
• Strong knowledge of data analytics, best manufacturing practices, Proven track record of relevant successes in improving the cost of manufacturing and working through others. Working knowledge of SPC, lean manufacturing concepts, 5S, quality systems and Six-Sigma projects. (certification is a plus)
• Act as a technical support to the manufacturing floor for the assigned product or process line(s) and work to solve assigned engineering problems including checking the work of others within the department
• Must be results-oriented with a focus on driving value to the business and our customers
• Must demonstrate ability to indirectly motivate employees at all levels to reach common objective. Ability to effectively interact between the many different support, engineering, quality and production groups. Requires positive attitude toward all personnel
