Job Purpose

To act as the project lead for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives of the enterprise wide electricity distribution and transmission, throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Key Accountabilities
• Responsible for assigned substation telecommunications standards technical support which may include the review and approval of telecommunications solutions. Technical support provided to various departments including Engineering, Design, Operations, IT and Construction.
• Lead the development of National Grid’s telecom standards, philosophy, and guidelines; identify risks and put in place actions to ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
• Lead the engagement of various Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in technical discussions to facilitate the development of telecommunication standards and trainings.
• Attend and participate in conferences and seminars in relation to new technologies to ensure telecommunication standards are up to date on technology, fostering future adaption and expansion.
• Ability to adapt and adopt telecom standards to the electric substation standard environment or from NEC requirements to NESC requirements.
• Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of technical problems, investigative findings, and engineering recommendations.
• Manage consultants’ work under a master service agreement, ensuring compliance and technical adequacy.
• Work in a matrixed team environment and promote team effectiveness by providing technical guidance and coaching, communicating expectations to the team and delegating assignments.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
• Able to line manage a team of engineering resources to develop new business ideas, throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Telecommunications/Network Engineering, or associated disciplines from an accredited engineering school.
• Minimum 14 years experience with a professional engineering license, or 20 years minimum without a professional engineering license. One year credit in experience for each advanced degree in an engineering field related to power systems, substation engineering, and/or operations and maintenance.
• Thorough knowledge of both telecom theory and application in the electric utility industry.
• Professional Engineering License desirable.
• Master’s degree desirable.
• Experience with telecom systems and requirements including, private radio, private microwave, private fiber optic networks/systems, teleprotection systems, power line carrier or commercial wired & wireless communications services.
• Experience in OPGW and ADSS design considerations and code requirements in and around electric power space as well as associated installation materials and hardware.
• Working knowledge of SONET and TDM systems as well as MPLS and Ethernet technologies.

Salary

$140,000 – $160,000 a year
