We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer capable of technically managing multiple projects including 6-10 electrical engineers in our New York/New Jersey transportation market. Our Electrical Engineers, while specializing in moveable bridge rehabilitation and design, support a diverse project portfolio including bridge electrical infrastructure design, low and medium voltage switchgear, infrastructure generator selection and evaluation, roadway lighting design, field inspection, movable bridge and movable roof design, and electrical infrastructure design for transportation stations. We work in both traditional design-bid-build and design-build/Public-Private-Partnership delivery methods. We are looking for candidates with the ability to work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment that have exceptional communication, analytical and organizational skills. This position performs advanced level electrical engineering design and construction supervision and support services tasks, while also managing workloads and resource allocation for the department. This position will be based in Parsons New York City Office, with remote/hybrid working arrangements are available. While the position is based in NYC, our NYC operations support projects throughout the US and Canada. Modest travel may be required from time to time. Proof of full COVID vaccination status required to meet NYC mandates.
With minimal supervision you will be expected to perform conventional and complex electrical engineering assignments applying electrical engineering design techniques and analyses. The position also entails supervising the work performed by other electrical engineers on staff, assisting in the assignment of electrical engineering tasks to staff, and coordinating electrical work with other disciplines (structural, mechanical, civil). The position will team with multiple project managers to prioritize deliverables across projects, allocate resources appropriately, and ensure timely, efficient delivery.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare detailed calculations, drawings, technical specifications, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal preparation and evaluation, technical reports, cost estimates, detailed analyses and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Resource allocation, staffing projections, building moveable bridge portfolio.
Typical design tasks include but are not limited to:
• Extensive familiarity with Codes and Standards relating to the application areas
• Fixed and Moveable bridge power and control system design, inspection and rehabilitation
• Low and Medium Voltage electrical distribution systems including protective relaying.
• Roadway and tunnel lighting calculations and design
• Lightning Protection and Grounding. Surge protection.
• Standby power generation. Uninterruptible power supplies.
• Utility-related work and utilities relocation
• Electrical equipment and infrastructure sizing and functional calculations including power systems studies
Responsibilities include:
• Resource allocation within electrical department
• Teaming with project managers for deliverable scheduling
• Travel to supplier, client, or construction site locations to inspect various facets of work and to perform acceptance testing.
• Perform stage and final inspection of electrical equipment and installations both new and existing installations. Write inspection reports and design studies.
• Frequently interface with other Engineering disciplines as well as other departments. Coordinate electrical work with other disciplines.
• Review supplier drawing submittals, respond to field requests for information.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
BS degree in Electrical Engineering required. MS preferred
• 12+ years of heavy industrial/facilities electrical design related experience. (individuals working for utility companies, industrial buildings or related facilities are encouraged to apply)
• Registration as a Professional Engineer required.
• Electrical Engineering Design experience with moveable structures required
• Electrical Engineering Design experience with transportation facilities preferred
• COVID vaccination required
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications, be totally familiar with construction-related processes related to area of assignment and have the potential to perform in a lead capacity.
• Must be able to present technical work to clients to develop consensus and sales
• English proficiency

Salary Range:
$92,200.00 – $161,400.00
