Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Manager. In this capacity, you perform assigned analytical, design, and test objectives vis-à-vis: life cycle requirements capture, design to cost, schedule commitment and ME designs, analyses, and tests that meet product performance for use in electronic power conversion product development including rapid prototyping and manufacturing. The Mechanical Engineer demonstrates communicating business goals, programs, and processes for the GE Aviation Power Conversion & Control business segment. In this role, you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and have the ability to effect short-term and long-term business goals.

Roles and Responsibilities

Through work assignments, you will:

· Apply advance engineering concepts and technical requirements such as thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid-mechanics, vibration, shock, and physical properties data into functional product definition designs, analyses, and tests for packaging high power conversion electronics systems

· Work with technicians and designers/engineers in design and analytical methods

· Work on proposal development efforts, prototype designs, and design-to-cost solutions for complex electro-mechanical systems and components

· Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of designs, tolerance stack-ups, and electronic data formats to support analyses, manufacturing, assembly, and inspection

· Derive electronic data models and use engineering analysis tools as needed using finite element and finite difference methods (ANSYS, CFDesign, and KCR Thermal)

· Support global sourcing initiatives by preparing and sending work packages to low cost suppliers, including defining the work scope, estimating hours and due dates, monitoring progress, and serving as a technical resource through periodic communication with suppliers

· Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies & Procedures, Engineering Standards, Product Definition Operating Procedures, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards

· Evaluate and influence new and revised Processes, Engineering Standards and Product Definition Operating Procedures

· Concurrently, work on multiple projects monitoring progress and quality and ensure schedule, cost and performance requirements are met

· Work as one team with Pompano Beach and Long Island engineering teams and anticipate 10% travel time to vendors and other GE sites.

Required Qualifications
• · Bachelor of Engineering with advanced courses in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer; a Master of Mechanical Engineering is preferred with a concentration in thermal-fluids sciences or structural analysis· Three years of demonstrated experience in the development of electronic product packaging, conceptual design, proposals, analysis, testing, and design for manufacturing/assembly of high-power electronics conversion and electronics control products with expertise in thermal management and/or vibration/shock· Demonstrated proficiency using ANSYS – at least 2 years of experience using ANSYS for thermal-fluid and vibration-shock analyses· Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present technical results from analyses, design, and test to customers and senior leadership· Strong leadership skills.
