The EIC Vacuum Group has an opening for a senior level Mechanical Engineer to help design and develop components for the multiple large vacuum systems required for the Electron-Ion Collider being built at BNL. The selected candidate will focus on developing and optimizing thin film coatings which will be required for large quantities of accelerator components. This effort will include the development and commissioning of the required coating and support equipment. After the development phase, this position will evolve into supporting the buildup and transfer of the optimized coating process to an on-sight production facility which will be required to support the project needs. In addition to coatings, the EIC project has complex and unique challenges which will require creative solutions and close collaboration with the other technical engineering groups. The chosen candidate will fill a key role in developing the solutions critical to the success of the project and will continue to support these through the production and commissioning phases of the project. Join BNL at the beginning of this ground-breaking scientific and engineering project and become part of the team building this scientific discovery machine.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work directly with physicists to develop, optimize, and test specialized coatings for use inside super conducting magnets
• Manage the various aspects and develop project plans including schedules with needed resources and budgets
• Oversee the development of the required production coating facility
• Create documentation and train technicians to ensure uniformity and consistency throughout the production process
• Coordinate a variety of technical staff for design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment
• Work closely with scientific staff as well as other engineering groups to develop solutions to complex problems and integration issues
• Prepare and present material as required for design reviews
• Prepare job orders, requisitions, and cost estimates
• Maintain a safe and respectful workplace environment
