National Grid is hiring an Engineer, Gas Planning and Design Engineering for our Gas Design Engineering department in Melville, NY.

Job Purpose

Responsible for the engineering, design, and technical oversight during construction of projects relating to the gas transmission and distribution networks located in NYC (Staten Island, Brooklyn & Queens) as well as Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk County).

Key Accountabilities

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
• Perform engineering and design for natural gas construction projects which may include distribution/transmission pipelines, bridge/highway/waterway crossings, remote operated valve installations, check valve installations and metering facilities
• Plans and conducts work requiring judgement in the evaluation, selection, adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
• Identify, specify, review, and approve materials to be used in association with gas construction projects
• Collaborate with Gas Operations, Gas Asset Owners and Gas Engineering in development of procedures to support the engineering and design of gas facilities in accordance with company and regulatory requirements including all safety, health and environmental standards and procedures
• Compile and review as built documentation for accuracy and incorporation into mapping and document management systems
• Assist in the Traceable, Verifiable, Complete (TVC) process with the asset owners as part of project record retention

Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline required
• 2+ years of engineering, design or project management experience required
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred
• Experience in the application of design and construction standards, engineering drawings, and underground construction methods and procedures required
• Basic technical knowledge of natural gas system design and operations including natural gas industry codes and regulations, engineering and environmental codes and standards required
• Basic knowledge of OSHA, PHMSA, and applicable State regulations required
• Valid driver’s license required

Salary

$93,000 – $109,000 a year

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation (‘DOT’) covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
