Unique to the Community Development practice is our collaborative structure of civil engineering, landscape architecture, sport design, and our urban places teams. The candidate will work as part of a team and oversee projects of various sizes and complexity. As a Municipal Engineer/Project Manager on our infrastructure team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of innovative and diverse projects, including the design of civil and municipal engineering projects for highways and local roads, public utilities and public works, parks, trails, and related infrastructure products. This position includes performing various tasks that may consist of developing construction plans and specifications, calculations, quality reviews, proposal and technical writing, and project management. The projects that the candidate may be assigned to may have complex and innovative features that will require mature judgment and knowledge. This role also leads the analysis of proposed projects to ensure technical reliability, resource efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Your Key Responsibilities
• Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans, and reports for relevant project design elements.
• Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
• Utilizes technologies in development of three-dimensional models of civil systems.
• Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
• Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
• Assists with the development of job specific discipline specifications.
• Assists in the evaluation and selection of civil systems and materials.
• Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
• Participates in value engineering and project cost estimating.
• Implements sustainable design principles.
• Performs calculations to analyze and design civil system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
• Client service, development, management, and growth.
• Opportunity identification and pursuits.
• Mentor and empower other team members.
• Execute and manage complex civil engineering designs.
• Manage complex, multidisciplinary projects.
• Plan and manage projects and tasks to complete them on time and within budget.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
• Experience representing private sector and municipal clients and projects.
• Experience in design functions, such as site planning, roads, drainage, grading, water systems, sanitary sewer systems and other municipal and private sector infrastructure.
• Experience in project management functions; contract administration, bidding regulations, and quality assessments.
• Strong knowledge of civil systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
• Full understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
• Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
• Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
• Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
• Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and other similar material.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD, as well as relevant software programs which may include Civil3D, GIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, WaterCAD, and PondPack.
• Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
• Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
• Has the skill and knowledge to create, suggest, and introduce innovative and effective client solutions and integrated deliverables that are aligned with the Sector business objectives
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere and lead M&BD activities for positioning and pursuits of new opportunities
• Experience or passion for leading a team of professionals
• Ability to travel as required
• Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer license strongly preferred; ability to obtain within a year.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in land development, site civil projects.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
