Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician A to join our team in a full-time position to work within the Division of Critical Care and Hospital Medicine in the Center for Host Pathogen Interaction. Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing technical support to our Division.
Responsibilities
The Departments of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated lab research technician. The individual will join a diverse group studying multiple aspects of lung regeneration with human stem cell therapies in a small animal model. The primary purpose of this position is to function effectively as a member of a research team to:
Provide assistance in performing routine molecular biology techniques such as immunostaining and relative imaging,
data analysis, functional assays (e.g, ELISA, qPCR), animal care (genotyping and routine care),
Assisting with the harvest and processing of tissues from rodents,
Regular lab care,
Work with animals (mice, rats),
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program.
One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and/ or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, engineering or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
The ideal candidate must possess solid knowledge and experience (at least 6 months) of animal care and skills in animal studies.
Must have the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with research personnel and/or veterinary staff and demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills are required. Qualified candidates will be capable of working both independently and as part of a larger group.
