Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Central Sterile Processing Technician to staff our busy outpatient surgery center located in East Syracuse, NY. Nights, weekends, and holidays off.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies following Infection Control practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
• Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
• Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
• Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
• Examining instruments and supplies to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
• Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
• Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during surgery.
• Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgery.
• Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Has passed a nationally accredited central service exam and holds and maintains the credential administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization (e.g., certified registered central service technician)
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good judgment and critical-thinking skills.
• Technical skills and familiarity with sterilization techniques.
• The ability to work well in a team or independently.
• Proof of up-to-date immunizations.
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push and pull. Stands or walks most of the shift. Appreciable effort or strain with frequent lifting. Some handling and pushing of equipment and carts required.
