Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science or related discipline or equivalent directly related experience on the basis of 2:1 (exp:edu)
• A minimum of 5 years, full-time, relevant experience to include high-performance storage systems (Lustre, GPFS, etc) and container/virtualization technologies (VMWare, Docker, Kubernetes, Singularity, etc)
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment with time-sensitive deadlines
• Experience with data analytics and system performance monitoring tools (ELK, Grafana, etc)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Prior experience with Federated Identity Management (FIM) tools and services (LDAP, Co-Manage, InCommon, x.509 certificates, sci-tokens, etc) in support of distributed scientific computing infrastructure
• Experience with Jupyter notebooks and JupyterHub
• Experience with collaborative tools (GitHub, Mattermost, DropBox, Confluence, Slack, etc )
• Experience with software and services such as:
• Configuration management and version control software (Puppet, Cobbler, Ansible, etc)
• Data transfer and network access protocols (GridFTP, Globus Online, Ssh, NX, VNC, etc)
• Object-oriented storage (S3, Swift, Ceph, etc)
• Software development experience (Python, C/C+, Java)
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work occasionally (replacing server components, moving servers within the data center, connecting network cabling among servers, inventory and organize replacement hardware parts, etc)

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is the scientific extreme scale Data Laboratory in the US. The Scientific Data & Computing Center (SDCC) at BNL hosts data generated from the many scientific user facilities on BNL site such as the nuclear physics Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), the brightest synchrotron in the world at NSLS II, or from the LHC Atlas experiment at CERN (Switzerland), the Belle II experiment in Japan, the Center for Functional NanoMaterials and the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement program. As a consequence of BNL’s fast-growing data science research programs, the SDCC is a very lively organization developing solutions and providing the necessary computing infrastructure to support BNL’s science mission.
The SDCC has an opening for an Advanced/Senior Technology Engineer to contribute to RHIC and ATLAS computing activities. In this position you will be responsible for federated access to the SDCC resources, supporting off-line computing farms and storage systems, and participating in the evaluation and adoption of new technologies. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.

• Contribute to the operations of a federated identity management (FIM) system
